My journey began in Nepal, where my parents dedicated their lives to ensuring that my brothers and I could pursue medical education. Growing up with strong roots in Nepal, I witnessed firsthand the stark contrasts in everyday life between illness and health. I often encountered individuals suffering from conditions that, while easily treatable with Western medicine, remained undiagnosed or unmanaged. These experiences sparked an early fascination with the intricacies of human anatomy and physiology and instilled in me a deep desire to serve those in need. This passion guided me through medical school, an Internal Medicine residency, and a fellowship in Nephrology, culminating in a specialization in Interventional Nephrology. I chose this path to ensure that patients could receive timely vascular access—crucial for dialysis and lifesaving therapies. Throughout my career, my patients have been my greatest teachers. They have taught me the value of truly listening and the importance of shared decision-making in the healing process. As Chief Nephrology Fellow at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, I learned to harmonize the strengths of our clinical teams with the unique needs of each patient—an approach that became even more vital during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, I was honored to receive the SUNY Downstate Award for Outstanding Courage, Service, Scholarship, and Valor during the COVID-19 crisis. This recognition reflects the collective heroism of everyone on the frontlines—from transport staff and lab technicians to nurses and fellow clinicians. It was a privilege to stand with them in our efforts to stabilize critically ill patients during one of the most demanding times in modern healthcare. As I look to the future, my commitment remains clear: to deliver compassionate, expert Nephrology care while empowering patients through active listening and collaborative care. I am dedicated to ensuring that every patient’s journey is not only effective but also deeply human and healing.
